It rises in a dominant position where the creek flows into the Tiber Nese. The name probably comes from Ascani, descendants of Aeneas. The earliest records date back to 1370, when Gilbert, Count of Serra, entered Castiglione Ugolino, who had rebelled to Perugia, to whom they tried to remove the castle Ascagnano. in 1395 was destroyed by order of Biordo Michelotti, Lord of Perugia. In the early nineteenth century owner of the castle was Hector Florenzi that shortly before his death, driven by necessity, sold it to King Louis I. of Bavaria They bought it and gave it to the wife of Florenzi, Marchesa Marianna, with whom he was living in a romantic relationship that lasted many years later. When in 1833 the Marquis Florenzi died, his wife remarried English Evelino Waddington, who became councilor, alderman and mayor of the Municipality of Perugia.
