Ancient monastery of blacks Benedictine located along the old road leading to the town of Castle. The Abbey of San Cassiano is located along the road to La Verna. There are reports that once was a monastery of Benedictine blacks. San Cassiano in 1139 passed the Camaldolese congregation of Fonte Avellana, and this union was confirmed in 1218 by Pope Honorius III. Pope Innocent III, in 1207, assured the bishop that the Abbey of St. John Cassian remained under the jurisdiction of the diocese tifernate. It was customary, in the thirteenth century, this monastery that would stop the new bishop of Citta di Castello, coming from Rome, to prepare to make the audience into the city. So it was that the prosecutor of the new bishop James, 9 May 1280, warned the abbot of the Monastery of St. Cassiano to receive the bishop "former custom" with all his family. The abbot replied that he was ready to "provide tractare et, ut et tenetur debet former habit." In fact, the abbot and monks welcomed the Bishop with the cross, incense, holy water, a crowd of people cheering.
